Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Who we are
Meet Pup ("we", "us", or "our") is a mobile application that helps dog owners connect, discover dog parks, share check-ins with friends, and coordinate playdates. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use Meet Pup, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By creating an account and using Meet Pup, you agree to the practices described here. If you disagree with any part of this policy, please do not use the app.
2. Information you provide directly
Account details: your email address, password (stored as a bcrypt hash — we never see your actual password), display name, and username.
Family profile: family name, family photo (optional), the role you play in your family (Mom / Dad / etc.), and privacy setting (public or private).
Dog profiles: your dog's name, breed, size, sex, birthday, bio, and photo (optional).
Content you post: chat messages, playdate invites, check-in notes, and any photos you upload. This content is stored on our servers and delivered to the family members and friends you share it with.
Family invite codes: when you invite someone via a 6-character code, that code and the invitee's role are stored until the invite is accepted, declined, or expires.
3. Information collected automatically
Approximate location: when you check in at a park or request nearby dog parks, we use your device's location (with your explicit permission) to compute distances and identify the park. We do NOT track your location continuously in the background — location is only read when the app is open and you take an action that requires it.
Push notification tokens: if you allow notifications, your device generates a token that we store so we can deliver check-in alerts, chat messages, and playdate invites. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
Device information: standard technical data (operating system version, app version, unique installation id) sent with each API request to help us diagnose crashes and performance issues.
Session tokens: when you log in, we issue an authentication token (JWT) that stays on your device until you log out. It does not contain any personal information beyond your user id.
4. How we use your information
To operate the core features: showing you friends' check-ins on the map, delivering chat messages, coordinating playdates, and letting you invite family members.
To communicate with you: password reset emails, security notices, and (where you have opted in) push notifications for chat + broadcast activity.
To keep the service safe: detecting spam, abuse, and unauthorized access attempts.
We do NOT sell your personal information. We do NOT use your data for advertising. We do NOT share your information with any third party for their independent marketing purposes.
5. Who we share with
Other users you choose to connect with: the family members you invite, your accepted friends, and any user you send a message or playdate invite to.
Service providers we rely on to run the app:
· MongoDB Atlas — stores our database
· Amazon Web Services (S3) — stores photos you upload
· Google Maps Platform — displays the map + dog parks
· Resend — delivers transactional emails (e.g. password reset)
· RevenueCat — manages Family Plan subscriptions
· Emergent Push Notifications — delivers push notifications on your behalf
Each provider only receives the minimum data needed for their function, is bound by their own privacy commitments, and does not use the data for their own marketing.
Legal disclosure: we may share information if compelled by valid legal process (subpoena, court order) or to protect the safety of users or the public.
6. How long we keep your data
Account data (email, profile, dogs, family membership): as long as your account is active.
Chat messages + check-in history: retained indefinitely so you can scroll back through your conversations and playdate history. You can delete individual messages at any time.
Password reset tokens + email verification tokens: automatically expire in 60 minutes and are permanently deleted after use.
When you delete your account, we permanently erase your profile, dogs, and message history within 30 days. Content you posted in group chats may remain visible to other members if it was part of a shared conversation.
7. Your choices and rights
Access + edit: you can update your email, password, name, username, family, and dog profiles at any time from within the app.
Delete: you can delete individual dogs, leave a family, or delete your account entirely from Settings → Delete Account.
Location permission: revocable at any time from your device's system settings.
Push notifications: revocable at any time from Settings → Notifications inside the app, or from your device's system settings.
Data export (California, EU, UK, and other jurisdictions): if you'd like a copy of the data we hold about you, email support@meetpup.space and we'll respond within 30 days.
8. Children under 13
Meet Pup is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe we've collected information from a child under 13, contact support@meetpup.space and we'll delete it promptly.
9. Security
Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes (never in plain text). Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Access to our database is restricted to authenticated backend services.
No security system is perfect. If you become aware of any vulnerability, please contact support@meetpup.space responsibly and we'll address it as quickly as possible.
10. International users
Our servers are located in the United States. By using Meet Pup from outside the US, you consent to your information being transferred to and processed in the US.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app and via email (if you've enabled email notifications) at least 14 days before they take effect. The "Effective date" at the top of this page tells you when the current version was published.
